Fix Road congestion; build Roe 8

It's so much more than just road congestion. It's having extra leisure time or at least not being drained by the drive homes so you can use our children's facilities like this skate park in Atwell. Incidentally every Suburb should have dedicated children and youth skate parks. We need to encourage out door activities and that also means catering for families with shade cover, fountains, BBQ s and toilets.

Decriminalsing drug taking is criminal.

Alternative thinking some times is good; but sometimes it is just plain stupid. To decriminalise the taking of meth for personal use is just plain crazy. Why? because when you decriminalize it then law abiding people think it is ok to try. The same thing happened with marihuana; the courts and Police were getting bogged down in this as a crime so they took it off the books. This is extreme. Simple analogy; If you took speed restrictions off our roads because we were capturing too many people speeding then great, the cops and courts would be freed up, though the road carnage will increase. It is a crime to poison your body and a crime when under the influence of these drugs they run amok. So we need to keep it as a crime and not desensitize people to what is wrong. Keep it as a crime and let the justice system dispense justice as they see fit; whether that is going into the health system or into jail. Let them be dealt with properly. Dealers in meth there is only one recourse; mandatory sentencing; minimum 6 months, though I would prefer 20 years. People who deal in death shoud be sentenced accordingly. Thankfully the Greens put me last on their how to vote card; just as I have applied to them. We are streets apart in thinking.

Suburban Safety

Security and safety is paramount; Paths in parks in darkness? Easy fix solar lighting; affordable and easy to install. Truck parking; make Cockburn more truckie friendly; strategically located parking near shops. Students walking to school; well Students need to be encouraged; unsafe roads are not conducive to walking. pedestrian bridge from Success to Atwell; get kids away from Armadale Rd and Russell/Gibbs Roads. Congestion in Success; make Hammond road a viable alternative route; dual laned roundabout at Hammond Rd and Russell Road will address. Use best practices in road treatments. Many local Government's have great ideas. They need to share them. For example; Joondalup and Wanneroo have great medium strip treatments that minimise shooting the apex on roundabouts. Cockburn needs it. What's WALGA doing? They need to be more proactive with this type of stuff.

New Candidate for Cockburn

I was at the launch of the campaign to build the North Lake overpass and complete the dual laning of Armadale Rd today. . A no brainer this should have been done years ago. It will fix Knock Place where it takes longer to get out of the train station than the journey itself from Perth or indeed Joondalup. Yes North Lake overpass will reduce the traffic considerably on Beeliar Drive in front of Gateways which apparently the Peron Group are waiting on before committing to a $300 million expansion. Wow, great employment opportunities too. Facts; with North Lake Overpass the daily traffic reductions on Beeliar Drive between the Freeway and Wentworth Parade will drop some 9000 vehicles. As at 2016 there were 58990 By 2031 it will be 62100 without North Lake overpass. With it 53190 Some 9000 a day drop. So pretty good. What is so sad though is we are sitting on report after report supporting the Governments position on Roe 8. What they show is with simply Bartram Rd overpass built the traffic by 2031 would be 45000. That's a bigger drop; though doesn't fix Knock place. But the slam dunk is that "with Roe 8" traffic would drop to 28400 a day; that beats both overpasses combined. (Reference CoC 2013 DTS) I've been banging my head against a wall trying to get this information discussed and released to the community. So frustrated I set up a Pro Roe 8 Facebook page. I have been flooded with support. From less than 150 members prior to Christmas it has nearly 1100 members today. From engineers, truckies to Mums and Dads they are starting to know that this is a critical piece of infrastructure. They feel validated and just sigh with exasperation at the anti Roe groups and their glib one liners and misinformation. Not to mention the deplorable tactics used to stop lawful activities by the protestors.. Cockburn has been a safe Labor seat since its creation in 1962. Fran Logan is hard working and compassionate; a real nice bloke. But he is spinning his wheels carrying Labor policy. I believe not enough has been done by both sides of politics for us, for that reason I intend to run for State Parliament at this election. I am not affiliated with any party and am not answerable to anyone bar the residents of Cockburn. Living in Cockburn for 20 years and working here for 15 years I believe I can with hard work, make a difference. It will be a hard task winning the seat from Labor, but I believe my values will resonate with a lot of people. I had never foreseen the events leading up to the day of nominating for State Government, just about accidental in nature; I joined Council some 5 years ago in similar fashion after being asked to run by the Mayor at the time. I was a grass roots volunteer in Safety House, then Neighbourhood Watch, then the local residents group and I really enjoyed helping people and making our Suburbs better. I have lived in Atwell and Aubin Grove the past 20 years and I'm continued to be frustrated with congestion and the lack of supporting infrastructure in a timely manner. Cockburn is overdue much more than it has received from both sides. We don't want the $450 million Roe 8 scrapped nor do we want the majority of funds diverted from Cockburn to the likes of Wanneroo to buy votes there. I will continue to fight for Roe 8 and more, I hope the residents will support me. Tuesday 9am I'm with the returning officer to put my nomination for Cockburn. I will need your help.

Proud of our 1000 plus members of Pro Roe 8

It is heartening to see the support of like minded people. Many have said, I thought I was in the minority the way the anti Roe people act.

Getting the facts out, reassuring people and highlighting the benefits is a just cause. Go Roe 8!!

No more scare mongering

I'm so over the scaremongering, rhetoric and glib one liners; Roe Highway is a road to somewhere! Cockburn a destination for 95% of the traffic of Stage 7 will go to Cockburn high employment hubs of North Lake Rd, Stock Rd and Cockburn Roads Henderson. Melville and Fremantle will get benefits as well. Melville who are suffering 60% of the total of car crashes involving trucks in rear end collisions has double the average of crashes; 11.4%. the overall for the Metro area is 11%. So it will make roads safer south of the river.
